Work Experience

Lawyer Mrs. Hu has devoted nearly 10 years to large, complex and challenging commercial cases, having successively worked at leading law firms and arbitration institution in China and abroad. She once served as a part-time assistant to Daniel Urbas, former partner at top‑tier Canadian law firm Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (now Justice of the Superior Court of Québec).

After returning to China, Mrs. Hu joined the China Maritime Arbitration Commission (CMAC) as a case manager, handling maritime and admiralty arbitration cases. She organized and led delegations from the Chinese arbitration community on international exchange visits to Mexico, Panama, Brazil, Singapore and other districts, and co-hosted international conferences.  During her tenure, she also served as Secretary of the China Maritime Law Association, and participated in organizing multiple rounds of revision seminars and international negotiation meetings on the draft of the United Nations Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships (Beijing Convention) - the first United Nations convention named after a city of mainland China.

Mrs. Hu is well-versed in procedural rules of commercial arbitration in China and abroad, the practical aspects of arbitration and litigation, and the key points of arbitral awards. She specializes in commercial disputes involving investment, funds, trusts, insurance, international trade, and construction.

Her practice areas are:

Commercial arbitration and litigation matters involving private equity funds, trusts, investment,  international trade and construction disputes, etc.;

Cross-border recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards and judgments;

Commercial-related criminal cases such as misappropriation of company assets.

In the investment field in particular, Mrs. Hu excels at uncovering details in commercial cases, identifying evidence pointing to economic crimes and pushing for further in-depth investigations, and helping clients recover substantial losses from assets misappropriated or embezzled through appropriate means. Her past clients include AK Medical Group, PICC (People's Insurance Company of China), China Three Gorges Capital Group, and Beijing International Trust, etc.

Typical Case

1.Lead counsel in an arbitration over a share repurchase agreement dispute with an amount in dispute of up to RMB 2.3 billion (Beijing Arbitration Commission); represented the client in proceedings to against setting aside the arbitral award (Beijing Fourth Intermediate People's Court) and in enforcement proceedings on the award (Beijing Second Intermediate People's Court), achieving full enforcement of the RMB 2.3 billion;

2.Lead counsel in an international arbitration involving an insurer's subrogation claim for damage to large gas turbine power generation equipment, winning the client's high satisfaction through meticulous work and professional expertise in the document disclosure and expert appraisal proceedings;

3.Lead counsel in an arbitration over a quality dispute concerning a large bridge, where she applied procedural rules to compel the Respondent, a local government department, to produce evidence adverse to itself, thereby providing solid supporting grounds for the subsequent bridge quality appraisal and earning the client's high recognition;

4.Lead counsel in litigation over a construction project payment dispute, where she successfully persuaded the case-filing division of the Beijing Third Intermediate People's Court to agree to preserve an uncompleted construction project that had not obtained a property ownership certificate, on the premise that our side be exempted from submitting an appraisal report, saving the client substantial appraisal costs and earning the client's high satisfaction;

5.Lead counsel in an arbitration over a sludge environmental-protection design contract dispute; by identifying flaws in the details of the claimant's evidence, she secured the tribunal's full support and reduced the client's losses by nearly RMB 10 million;

6.Represented a Mongolian mining company in an arbitration against a Chinese bank over a dispute concerning the pledge of mining rights certificates;

Represented a Shanghai information technology company in an arbitration against a U.S. entertainment industry company over an intellectual property contract dispute.
